I am
Nosa Igbinedion
Nosa Igbinedion is a British/Nigerian filmmaker who is deeply interested in African futurism, African jujuism, spirituality, and politics. Growing up with Nigerian mythology, he is dedicated to weaving these stories into his work and authentically reimagining them for a modern global audience.
In 2016, he created the Rise of the Orisha universe, a superhero universe based on the ancient Nigerian deities known as the Orisha. The proof-of-concept short film, Oya Rise Of the Orisha, went viral and gained over a million views online, as well as being featured in various film festivals. In 2017, Yemoja Rise of the Orisha was nominated for the Africa Movie Academy awards. The next installment of the universe, Aje and Bruja, has just premiered at the PAFF festival in LA. In 2022, he was shortlisted for the Netflix/UNESCO African Folktales reimagined competition. Since then, he has continued to work on several projects that feature Africans (continental and diasporan) in futuristic and mystical worlds.
His recent commissions include writing a podcast series for Story Punk, writing and directing a sci-fi short for BBC and BFI called "Binge Watching," and serving as a staff writer on Eone/Amazon TV series.
